Job Search Tools
Job Finder is a web-based system that includes full time job opportunities from employers wanting to hire WPI talent and Alumni. In addition, Job Finder is home to podcasts, tipsheets, and other internet resources. If you have not used Job Finder as a WPI Alumnus, you will need to activate your account.
Inside Job Finder, WPI Alumni have access to Career Shift, Career Search, Going Global, and MyPlan. These resources are only accessible through Job Finder, and are free of charge to WPI Alumni. For additional information or tutorials on how to use these resources, please schedule an appointment through Job Finder - indicating you would like the following Type of Appointment: Alumni (>1 yr) Appointment (ALL Topics, 60 min) and referencing which resources you are interested in learning about in the Notes section of the confirmation screen.
- Career Shift: Users can tailor their job search by keywords, job type, location, company, salary, source, and much more. It makes networking easy by providing contact information of millions of businesses and professionals. Career Shift can also help manage a job search, store communications, and assist with job application follow up.
- Career Search: Database of 5 million companies by industry, location (both in the United States and internationally), size, revenue, and additional criteria. Search, save, and export in Microsoft Excel information of companies and contacts.
- Going Global: Search and apply for jobs in other countries, popular US cities, along with learning other country specific resume, cover letter, interviewing, business etiquette information. H1-B Database of companies that have sponsored H1-B visas within the past year. H1-B Database allows you to search my job title, company, location, etc.
- MyPlan: Assessments to help you better understand your interests, skills, values, and personality while highlighting career paths of interest. Career Fairs: WPI Alumni are invited, and encouraged, to attend each of the Career Development Center's 3 Career Fairs each year to search for career opportunities. Registration is not required. All WPI Alumni are able to schedule a 60 minute appointment to discuss your career needs. The Career Development Center Staff can assist you with resume/CV and cover letter critiques, interviews advice & mock interviews, job searching tips, networking resources, career advice, graduate school research, and much more!
All appointments are scheduled through Job Finder, and appointments can be in person, via telephone, or over Skype. Please make sure to select the following appointment Type: Alumni (>1 yr) Appointment (ALL Topics, 60 min). When taken to the Appointment Confirmation screen, please indicate where/how you would like to have your appointment, along with specify any questions and goals for the appointment in the Notes section. The more information you can provide in advance of the meeting, the better able the Career Development Center Staff Member can prepare for your meeting.
Resume & Curriculum Vitae Critiques:
WPI Alumni can get their resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV) critiqued through an appointment or electronically. To schedule an appointment, please access Job Finder and select the Appointment Type: Alumni (>1 yr) Appointment (ALL Topics, 60 min). If you would like to email your resume and get an electronic critique, please email email@example.com with your resume attached; your resume will be critiqued and emailed back within 4 business days.
All Career Development Center on campus workshops are available to WPI Alumni. Please check online, and in Job Finder (Events tab) for upcoming workshops. Registration is not required.
