Gabe Johnson

Gabe Johnson joined WPI as the Associate Director, Post-Award and Compliance, in September 2012. Gabe is responsible for the general post-award administration of sponsored programs at WPI. He is also charged with identifying and managing risk and compliance issues related to sponsored programs. Gabe develops and presents workshops on grant management at WPI, and he also serves as a member of WPI’s Institutional Review Board. Before coming to WPI, Gabe worked in the sponsored programs office at Clark University. He also previously worked as a risk manager for a global financial services firm.  He is a graduate of Michigan State University and the Pratt Institute.

Stacy Mueller

  • Associate Director, Pre-Award Services

Stacy Mueller joined WPI as the Associate Director, Pre-Award Services in November 2014. She provides proposal development assistance to faculty, staff and students; supports training workshops and communication of funding opportunities to the WPI community; and manages overall pre-award workflow. She is also involved in the negotiation and acceptance of awards. Stacy brings over 15 years of experience in grants administration. Before joining WPI, Stacy served as a Senior Research Administrator at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Prior to her position at BIDMC, she was a Development Officer for a K-12 science education initiative of the Smithsonian Institution and the National Academies. She is a graduate of Dickinson College.

Tammy Ducharme joined the Office of Sponsored Programs at WPI in April 2007.  She graduated from Worcester State University in 2003 with a BS in Business Administration.  Before coming to WPI, Tammy worked in Operations Management for Protocol Global Solutions.  As Sr. Assistant Director, Tammy coordinates the preparation and submission of faculty and staff proposals to external sponsors, and plays a key role in training both new OSP staff and members of the WPI research community.  She also participates in the creation and negotiation of award and subaward documents, and oversees the updating and maintenance of OSP’s web site.

Lisa Masciarelli

  • Assistant Director, Electronic Research Administration

Lisa Masciarelli joined WPI as the Assistant Director, Electronic Research Administration (eRA) and Pre-award, in November 2014. Lisa comes from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Graduate School of Nursing, where she provided support and coordination on school-wide grants and projects funded by NIH, HRSA, ACS and ONS. Previous to UMASS, she was Project Coordinator at Charles River Laboratories, where she submitted proposals to the FDA for toxicology, metabolism and pharmacokinetic studies. Lisa is responsible for proposal preparation, review and submission procedures for all proposals to be submitted electronically to external sponsors and determine that all proposals are completed in accordance with University policies and sponsor guidelines. Lisa completed the Research Administration Certificate Program at UMASS Medical School in 2011, she is also a graduate of Worcester State University.

Connie Galanis, joined the OSP team on January 2012.   Connie is an alumna of BU and completed graduate courses in business and management at Clark.  She has a broad background in sponsored programs administration spanning 20 years, most recently (2011) as Associate Director of Sponsored Programs and Finance at the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) in Boston.  Previous to HSPH, she was Senior Assistant Director at the Harvard University Office of Sponsored Research serving all Harvard graduate schools in Cambridge. Connie has developed and presented workshops and presentations in the areas of international projects and contract negotiations at National Council of University Research Administrators’ (NCURA’s) national and regional conferences.

Franc Lemire began at WPI in 2000 as the Director of the Office of Research Administration after spending 14 years at Brown University, where he was Associate Director of the Office of Sponsored Projects. Currently, as Senior Sponsored Programs Specialist in the WPI Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), Franc is responsible for the following: Developing sponsored programs-related policy and procedural documentation. Tracking and responding to federal and other legislative actions, as needed. Providing training for new staff.  Advising the Vice Provost for Research on issues of importance to OSP and the WPI research community. Providing general support and assistance, as required, and negotiating agreements in support of sponsored program efforts.

Kristin Keane joined the Office of Sponsored Programs in November 2013. Before coming to WPI, Kristin was the Executive Assistant with Spencer Technologies; a Retail Technologies company. During her time with Spencer she specialized in data & document management and reporting for the organization. She has background with many years in Operations Management. As Sponsored Programs Coordinator, Kristin coordinates and assists with the administration of sponsored program proposals and awards. She also provides administrative support for the office to serve faculty and staff members participating in externally funded projects, as well as reporting of proposal and award activity.

Svetlana Goretaya joined OSP in November of 2013. She graduated from Providence College in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in English with a minor in Political Science. Before coming to WPI, Svetlana worked in administration at the Institute for American Values in New York City. In her current role, Svetlana coordinates the preparation, review, and submission of faculty and staff proposals to external sponsors.

Michael McElman

  • OSP Specialist

Michael J. McElman has joined the Office of Sponsored Programs in November 2014 to assist in pre-award proposal preparation and review of subawards and subcontracts. Before coming to WPI, Mike was at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, a Federally Funded Research and Development Center, Hansom Air Force Base, Lexington, MA.  He was in the Office of Technology & Contracts working on sponsored programs and contracts not associated with the Laboratory’s prime contract with the United States Air Force. Previously, Mike was at Harvard University’s Office for Sponsored Programs as a Grants Specialist for both Federal and Private sponsor programs.  He has worked in sponsored programs administration on a broad variety of Federal and Non-federal submissions and contracts (academia, Military and industry) for the past 15 years.
