Elena Glatman joined WPI as the Associate Director of Pre-Award Services in the Office of Sponsored Programs in May, 2012. Elena came to WPI with an excellent, broadly based background in research administration in both pre-award and post-award services at Brown University in the Office of Sponsored Projects as the Contract, Sub-recipient and Private Funding Administrator and at the department level as the Assistant Director of Administrative Management in the Department of Education Alliance at Brown. Elena leads and participates in OSP outreach and training activities on campus, provides support to principal investigators, academic department staff, and the student community in all aspects of electronic and hardcopy proposal preparation and submission to external sponsors. Elena is also responsible for negotiation and acceptance of awards, interpreting and assuring compliance with sponsor guidelines and University policies. She leads the pre-award team and plays a key role in the development of capacity for handling electronic research administration.

Gabe Johnson
Gabe Johnson joined WPI as the Associate Director, Post-Award and Compliance, in September 2012. Gabe is responsible for the general post-award administration of sponsored programs at WPI. He is also charged with identifying and managing risk and compliance issues related to sponsored programs. Gabe develops and presents workshops on grant management at WPI, and he also serves as a member of WPI’s Institutional Review Board. Before coming to WPI, Gabe worked in the sponsored programs office at Clark University. He also previously worked as a risk manager for a global financial services firm. He is a graduate of Michigan State University and the Pratt Institute.

- Assistant Director
Tammy Houle joined the Office of Sponsored Programs at WPI in April 2007. She graduated from Worcester State College in 2003 with a BS in Business Administration. Before coming to WPI, Tammy worked in Operations Management for Protocol Global Solutions. As Assistant Director, Tammy coordinates the preparation and submission of faculty and staff proposals to external sponsors. She also participates in the creation and negotiation of award and subaward documents, oversees the updating and maintenance of OSP’s web site, and plays a key role in OSP training workshops.

- Assistant Director, Subawards and Subcontracts
Edita joined WPI as Assistant Director, Subawards and Subcontracts in October 2011. She graduated from Clark University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts, majoring in International Relations and Development with a minor in German. Before joining WPI, Edita worked for Partners HealthCare for three years acting as a Grants Administrator to over 12 departments at Massachusetts General Hospital. Edita is currently a member of the National Council of University Research Administrators (NCURA). In her role as Assistant Director, Subawards and Subcontracts, Edita is primarily responsible for Subcontract Preparation, Development and Management.

Connie Galanis, joined the OSP team on January 2012. Connie is an alumna of BU and completed graduate courses in business and management at Clark. She has a broad background in sponsored programs administration spanning 20 years, most recently (2011) as Associate Director of Sponsored Programs and Finance at the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) in Boston. Previous to HSPH, she was Senior Assistant Director at the Harvard University Office of Sponsored Research serving all Harvard graduate schools in Cambridge. Connie has developed and presented workshops and presentations in the areas of international projects and contract negotiations at National Council of University Research Administrators’ (NCURA’s) national and regional conferences.

Franc Lemire began at WPI in 2000 after spending 14 years at Brown University, where he was Associate Director of the Office of Sponsored Projects. Currently, Franc is responsible for the following: Serving as the primary Institute administrative point of contact with federal agencies and other sponsors and acting as Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR) with signatory authority for all transactions involving external sponsorship. Negotiating agreements in support of sponsored program efforts. Developing sponsored programs-related policy and procedural documentation. Tracking and responding to federal and other legislative actions, as needed. Providing periodic reports of sponsored program operational results.

Kayla Carroll
- Sponsored Programs Coordinator
Kayla Carroll joined the Office of Sponsored Programs at WPI in July of 2010. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Holy Cross. As Sponsored Programs Coordinator, Kayla coordinates and assists with the administration of sponsored program proposals and awards. She provides administrative support for the Director and the Office to serve faculty and staff members participating in externally funded projects, as well as reporting of proposal and award activity.
