WPI (We Prefer Initials)

If you're new to WPI, you may think we speak in a secret code. Many elements of our academic program have long names, so we commonly refer to them by their initials. Here is a guide to a few of the acronyms you'll encounter:

• ATC (Academic Technology Center), center for educational technology on campus
• IGSD (Interdisciplinary and Global Studies Division), administers the IQP and our global projects program
• IMGD (Interactive Media and Game Development), an exciting new major program
• IQP (Interactive Qualifying Project), our signature science, technology and society project
• MQP (Major Qualifying Project), the required project in a student's major field
• PQP (Pre-Qualifying Project), done in preparation for a major project, usually an IQP
• NR (No Record), what appears on WPI transcripts instead of a failing grade
