Chairman Marshall, members of the Board of Trustees, faculty, students, staff, alumni, other members of the WPI family, and distinguished guests:

I am deeply honored to be appointed the fifteenth president of this great university. I accept these exciting, if somewhat daunting, responsibilities with humility and with great enthusiasm, both for what WPI is and has been under the nurturing of my fourteen predecessors, and for what it can become with the help of all of you.
