Information for First Year Students
We’re thrilled that you've decided to attend WPI and we look forward to welcoming you into our community and helping you make a smooth transition from home life to living on campus. We know it can be daunting to leave home for the first time but we’ll be with you every step of the way—from the moment you step foot onto campus to the moment you walk across Earle Bridge to receive your diploma. Whether it’s helping secure a residence hall space in your first year, or helping locate an apartment if you decide to move off campus as an upperclassman, we’re here for you.
Guaranteed Housing for First Year Students
WPI guarantees on-campus housing to all full-time, first year students who submit the housing application questionnaire to the Office of Residential Services by June 30. When accepting a room assignment, you will sign a Housing and Food Service contract binding you to living on campus for the entire academic year. Housing assignments for first year students are prioritized according to the date of deposit.
To do: Complete your Housing Application by June 30.
On the Housing Application you will be asked to check off preferences in the following areas: smoking/non-smoking, sleeping habits, studying habits, and how you prefer to keep your room. We use this information to match potential roommates and their preferences. This is the only system we use to assign roommates. Reciprocal roommate requests are honored when possible.
You will be informed of the name and address of your roommate(s) before arriving on campus for the start of the academic year. You are encouraged to contact your roommate(s) prior to arriving on campus, giving you the opportunity to decide who will bring such items as stereos or refrigerators.
