Leadership Opportunities

The Office of Residential Services offers a wide variety of activities, events, and programs for students interested in leadership opportunities. All programs are designed to offer fun and social interaction among students, as well as nurturing personal growth, developing leadership skills, and encouraging community involvement. The following leadership opportunities are currently available:

Resident Advisors

Resident Advisors are the core of the residential life staff and are responsible for residents in a particular section or floor of a residence hall. Resident Advisors (RAs) are selected for their leadership skills, enthusiasm, organizational skills, maturity, and willingness to help others. They contribute a great deal to the living and learning community at WPI. RAs assist residents with social or personal concerns, answer questions about the campus, explain and enforce WPI policies, respond to emergency situations, submit work order requests, and are available when help is needed for any reason. If you are interested in becoming an RA check out these important dates.

Insight

WPI’s Insight program is designed to help new students make a successful transition to college life. Each member of the first year class joins an Insight team, which resides on their residence hall floor and works with a community advisor, a resident advisor, and a faculty advisor. First year students meet with their respective Insight groups during the evening to socialize with peers and participate in educational programs organized by the team. Insight offers first year students the opportunity to develop close relationships with their fellow students, and mentoring relationships with upperclassmen and faculty throughout shared learning and social experiences outside of the traditional classroom setting. Residence Hall Council (RHC)

RHC works on two levels—as a campus-wide government and programming group, and as a programming and advocacy body within each hall. Students learn to plan events, work in groups, and become trained student leaders. RHC provides leadership opportunities for students, which in turn creates more vibrant communities.

National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH)

NRHH is a nationally recognized leadership and service honor society that recognizes the efforts of members of the WPI community through monthly awards and works to provide service projects that directly benefit the WPI and Worcester communities. NRHH provides recognition of exceptional student leaders and members of the WPI community. This honor society celebrates the top 1 percent of residential student leaders on campus.
