Logging In for the First Time

Please note that you must be logged into the WPI network in order to access the Content Management System. Further instructions can be found at:  http://www.wpi.edu/Academics/CCC/Netops/VPN/.

Caution

  • Some pages in RedDot require the use of ActiveX. If ActiveX is not installed you might find that that RedDot does not carry out the expected action after clicking on a RedDot or menu item. When this occurs a yellow bar appears just below the address bar for your web browser. Right click on the yellow bar and select "Install ActiveX Components."  You should only have to do this a few times on your first log-in.  For Windows Users:  You can turn these on manually first by clicking on "Tools" -> "Internet Options" ->click on the "Security tab" -> click on the "Custom Level" button -> scroll down the list to "ActiveX controls and plug-ins" - click on the radio buttons to either "Enable" or "Prompt" on all those options.
  • RedDot uses several pop-up windows and it is recommended that pop-up blockers are set to accept pop-ups from cms.admin.wpi.edu.  For Windows Users:  You can turn off pop-up blocks by clicking on "Tools" -> "Pop-up Blocker" -> "Turn-off pop-up blocker".
  • For IE 8 users - you must also set your browser to use Compatible Mode.  Click on "Tools" -> "Compatible View".

 

Step 1

Go to wpi.edu/CMS. Click on Log-in to RedDot CMS found under the WPI Logo on the top left of the page. You may be asked to accept a certificate please accept it. Make sure pop-up blockers have been turned off.

If the certificate warning appears in Internet Explorer 7, click the second link labeled "Continue to this website."

Step 2

When prompted, enter your Windows username and password. Your username must include @wpi.edu.

Note

The following steps are necessary during first-time log-in only.  Upon subsequent log-ins the designated homepage appears automatically.

Step 3

It is necessary to designate a project after the initial log-in.  To pick a project click on Select Project tab in the top horizontal menu in the far right.

Step 4

From the dialog box, click 'Projects' then click the text link labeled 'WPI'.

Step 5

To begin editing, click on the button labeled "Smart Edit".

**For IE8 Users** – please note that you need to run your browser in "Compatibility View" mode:

Within your IE browser – click on "Tools".  In the drop down options you will see "Compatibility View".
