International Conference on Semi Solid Processing of Alloys and Composites

21-23 September 2004
Amathus Hotel
Limassol, Cyprus

S2P 2004 is hosted by WPI's Metal Processing Institute and the University of Cyprus.

The Conference will address recent developments and applications of semi-solid processing, as well as the scientific issues being pursued by researchers around the world. The major focus in 2004 should be on near-net shape manufacturing of components, and issues related especially to full scale manufacturing. Thematic domains which are appropriate for the 8th S2P 2004 are: fundamental principles, thixocasting/thixoforming and rheocasting processes, rheology of multi phase materials, modeling and simulation, light metals, ferrous metals, copper alloys, composites, quality assurance, manufacturing issues, post-processing (heat treatment, etc.), and related topics.

The presentations will take place over a two and one half day period, September 21, 22, and 23. The Conference banquet will be held on the evening of September 22. Optional historical tours in Cyprus, prior to and post the conference are being organized. A tutorial session in SSM processing is also being organized and will be offered in conjunction with the 8th S2P.

The 2004 Conference Co-Chairmen are Prof. Diran Apelian of WPI-MPI (dapelian@wpi.edu) and Prof. Andreas Alexandrou of the University of Cyprus (andalexa@ucy.ac.cy). The Conference Secretary is Ms. Carol Garofoli of WPI-MPI (garofoli@wpi.edu).
