We are delighted that you are considering the Mechanical Engineering (ME) graduate program at WPI. We offer a wide array of expertise, courses, and research opportunities in many disciplines in mechanical engineering, and we encourage you to explore them to find the one that best aligns with your interests.

The ME program has been enjoying steady and considerable growth in research expenditure, external funding support, and research infrastructure. Our current PhD students are fully supported with a competitive stipend, by fellowship, research assistantship, or teaching assistantship. The WPI ME program intends to increase the population of PhD students in the next few years. We strongly encourage you to apply for the doctoral program in ME at WPI. 
Note: GRE test results are NOT required for Fall 2021 PhD applications in the ME program.

  • Application deadlines: Rolling, but students seeking funding should apply by January 1st, 2021.
  • Required application materials: Transcripts, statement of purpose, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, and application fee of $70.
