WPI is pleased to announce the Mohammad A. Bin Khaled Alshawaf, M.D. Graduate Engineering Distinguished Fellowship. This Fellowship will provide tuition and stipend for a PhD or MS student to pursue a graduate degree at WPI, in any area of engineering. The Alshawaf Fellowship will allow a qualified student to explore new ideas and seek new discoveries in engineering while developing solutions for the world’s most compelling challenges.

The Alshawaf Fellowship will provide full tuition for graduate studies at WPI, as well as a stipend of $30,000/year. The Fellowship was made possible by a generous gift to WPI from Dr. Tarek Al-Shawaf ’55. 

At this time, we are not accepting applications for the Alshawaf Fellowship.


Applicants must be citizens of The Arab League of Nations, which was established in 1945 and has 22 members: Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen.

Applicants must meet all WPI admissions requirements.

Admissions Information and Deadline

To be considered for the Alshawaf Fellowship, you must apply to a WPI PhD program. After you have submitted your application, please send an email with “Alshawaf Fellowship” as the subject line to and we will forward your application to the review committee.
