WPI's Horizons program will introduce you to the world of contemporary Biology with an emphasis on human issues and current topics.

A Career in the Life Sciences May Be on Your Horizon

Participants will be exposed to the foundation skills needed for the study of living organisms and systems at both the organismal and molecular scales. Led by a WPI faculty member, students gain experience with procedures, equipment, techniques and skills common to various areas of biology, including:

  • Microscopy and microbiology
  • DNA isolation and gene detection
  • Genetic engineering of bacteria
  • Field biology to investigate ecology and environmental issues both locally and globally

Participants will be invited to step outside of the lab and discuss modern issues in the biology and biotechnology field with guest lecturers/scientists.

Evening activities and  interaction with WPI students and faculty will ensure that your stay is more than just an academic experience!

Learning and research opportunities in chemistry/biochemistry, robotics, computer science, and interactive media and game development fill your day at Launch – a summer program for rising high school freshmen and sophomores.
