Middle school teachers design a structure to save pig #2 from the big bad fan!


The STEM Education Center invites you to join the STEM Club - a PD series for current and aspiring STEM teachers. The STEM Club meets on Wednesday afternoons, from 4-6:30 pm at WPI.  Each club meeting is led by a teacher presenting a STEM project s/he conducted in the classroom; participants get to try, exchange ideas, make connections, and leave with a project they can try in their classrooms.

  • Wednesday, October 16, 2019
    • Mini Challenge:  LEGO Duck:  Norms for Creation by Tiffany Davis from Ash-West Regional School District
    • Transportation Pipeline by Vanessa Haerle from Sutton Middle School - You are a team of engineers which has to tackle the challenge of developing a pipeline system to safely transport materials three meters, from one location to another.
  • Wednesday, November 13, 2019 
    • ​Mini-Challenge:  Back to Back Build:  Focus on Communication by Tiffany Davis from Ash-West Regional School District
    • Zip-Line Challenge by Elisabeth Powers from St. Joseph - A group of friends are climbing down Mt. Washington and decide to make their climb easier by coming up with a creative way to get their heavy backpacks down the mountain using a zip-line.  Working in teams, you will build a container that will carry their backpacks from the top of a 10ft zip line string to the bottom in 4 seconds or less without anything falling off the zip line.

    • Mini-Challenge:  Build a Foundation:  Focus on Persistence by Tiffany Davis from Ash-West Regional School District
    • Circuits and Signals​ by Brian Lapointe from Lura A. White Elementary School - Teams use their knowledge of circuits to build a switch that can send a coded message.
  • Wednesday, March 18, 2020
    • Mini-Challenge:  Stack the Cups:  Focus on Teamwork by Tiffany Davis from Ash-West Regional School District​
    • Shipwrecked Challenge by Jessica Findlay and Kelly Graveson-Payne from Douglas Middle School- You’ve been shipwrecked, but have no fear—you have the power of STEM! Working as part of a team, you’ll use your STEM skills to design, construct, and test a prototype solution to get your shipmates to safety.​
  • Snow Date: Wednesday, May 20, 2020

Each session includes projects that solve "real world" problems and incorporate both STEM Standards and Practices so they can be easily adapted to a variety of classrooms. 

2019-2020 Topics were voted on at our STEM Club Share-a-thon, Wed. Sept 18.  Thank you to everyone who attended.  We are looking forward to a great year!


Cost is per school/district:  Once one person from your school/district pays for the session or series, everyone else from the same school/district comes for FREE!        (Please be sure that everyone still registers so we know how many people to expect and can plan accordingly.)
• ​Club participants: $25 per session/$80 for the entire STEM Club series (10 PDPs)
• Club presenters: FREE Club participation if you present a project at the STEM Club
• Scholarships available
