Located at the southern tip of South Africa, Cape Town is both a cosmopolitan city with visitors and residents from around the globe; and a city dealing with poverty, rapid urban growth, and other problems many developing nations face. Average temperatures in November range from 55°F to 74°F.
WPI students will stay in two-, three-, or four-person lodge-style accommodations in Cape Town, a short walk from the Victoria and Albert Waterfronts and Sommerset Road. The lodge is also home to a cat. Accommodation type and location are subject to change without notice and will be confirmed the term prior to departure.
South African cuisine is influenced by indigenous cultures and European settlers. Legumes and vegetables are very popular, but vegetarianism is not common. Students should inform their advisor of any health concerns, dietary restrictions, or allergies in advance of participation in this program.
