WPI’s project-based learning is a unique and creative way to obtain your bachelor’s degree, with a very different approach than many universities. WPI now offers a free application and scholarships exclusively for transfer students. All accepted transfer students receive a Global Scholarship for up to $5,000 to complete a project at one of WPI's 50+ project centers domestically and abroad.
Transfer candidates have typically completed at least one full year of college (post-high school) by the time of intended enrollment, must be enrolled in, or have recently completed, upper-level coursework in math and science, and be in good academic and disciplinary standing at your current institution. The deadline to apply for fall 2022 was May 15th — unfortunately WPI is not accepting late application submissions. The WPI Transfer Application for fall 2023 will be available in January.
Although utilized by our first-year applicants, WPI does not accept the Common Application for transfer admissions candidates. Additionally, WPI does not have an option to apply as a transfer candidate for a spring semester start.

WPI Transfer Application
Complete and submit the WPI Transfer Application by May 15th. Please be sure to provide a resume as part of your application, or a list of all work-related experiences, post-secondary extracurricular activities and/or community involvement, and/or awards and achievements. Be sure to discuss your goals in transferring to WPI in your personal essay.
Official College Transcript(s)
Contact all post-secondary institutions you have attended or are attending to request an official college transcript be sent to WPI.
Official High School Transcript(s)
Contact the high school or secondary school you graduated from to request an official, final high school transcript be sent to WPI.
If you are not enrolled at a post-secondary institution, or if you attend a post-secondary institution outside of the US that does not provide mid-year evaluations, please contact transfer@wpi.edu to request that this form requirement be waived after submitting your WPI Transfer Application.
One Letter of Recommendation
Please provide a recommendation from a current or recent college-level instructor or advisor. Additional recommendations are welcome.
WPI Conduct Record Release Form (PDF)
This form is required from all colleges or universities you have attended. Please provide this form to the college official who has access to your full disciplinary record, such as your Dean of Students Office, Registrar, or Student Conduct Affairs Office. The college official should send this report directly to WPI (details in form).

WPI Transfer Applicant Mid-Term Report Form (PDF)
If you are currently enrolled at a post-secondary institution, we strongly encourage you to provide this form for coursework in progress. It is also possible we may request this of you as part of the application review if we feel this will benefit your candidacy or is needed to understand your academic progress. Print it out and ask that all college instructors for coursework in progress provide an update and sign. Once completed by all instructors, this form can be emailed or mailed to our office (see How to Provide Documents section below).

Need-based Financial Aid
As a transfer student, you may be eligible for need-based scholarship and loan funds from a variety of sources including WPI, the federal government, and some state government agencies. Learn more.
Need-based financial aid is not available for part-time or international (non U.S. citizen) transfer students. (Please see the Additional Requirements for International Transfers section for more details.)
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
Beginning with acceptance to WPI for Fall 2021, WPI will award all Phi Theta Kappa Scholars a $10,000 scholarship per year. All accepted PTK scholars will automatically be awarded—no additional application or materials are necessary, but please be certain to note in your WPI application that you are a PTK scholar. Part-time students and students with previous baccalaureate degrees are not eligible. This scholarship cannot be combined with the WPI Transfer Honors Award. Candidates must have submitted their completed application by the transfer application deadline.
Transfer Honors Award
All accepted transfer applicants will automatically be considered for the WPI Transfer Honors Award valued at up to $10,000 per year. Five outstanding transfer students will be awarded this scholarship based on the information provided in their WPI transfer application and resume, including academic performance, non-academic pursuits, and any recommendations. This award cannot be combined with the Phi Theta Kappa scholarship. Candidates must have submitted their completed application by the transfer application deadline.

After a student has been accepted and has sent in their final transcripts, WPI will begin formally evaluating transfer credit.
Courses taken at regionally accredited post-secondary institutions similar to courses at WPI will be reviewed by the appropriate WPI academic department. Learn more.

Albert Nana Beka ’20 and Chris Renfro ’20 followed different paths based on their passions and interests—that’s all part of the WPI experience, after all—but one thing they have in common? They both began their academic journeys at QCC before transferring to WPI.
Chris Renfro ’20 was part of a three-member IQP team that sought to better understand food insecurity on campus and prompted a cohesive, progressive plan to help any students with food insecurity.
