There are regular pre-college summer programs, and then there’s Frontiers.

Enjoy hands-on classes and labs, an exploration of the humanities, and a full-range of activities that make for much more than an academic experience.

Experience College Life Firsthand

Frontiers offers soon-to-be high school juniors and seniors two or four weeks of hands-on classes and labs, plus an exploration of the humanities. Live on campus. Eat in the dining hall. Enjoy workshops, field trips, performances, and activities with students across the United States and around the globe. It makes for one unforgettable summer!

WPI Pre-college Program: Frontiers II

Major Courses

Frontiers is a unique experience – you spend two weeks immersed in what you love. From chemistry and math to cybersecurity and engineering, you’ll complete hands-on projects with WPI faculty and grad students in state-of-the-art facilities on campus. In each two-week session, participants select one major course. Be sure to rank your top three choices when applying! Check out the course descriptions for more information.

Minor Courses

WPI is much more than a tech school, so it only makes sense that Frontiers extends beyond STEM exploration. Along with testing your video game, making progress in your chemistry project, or putting the finishing touches on your team’s robot, you’ll have the chance to further explore your passions through writing, music, art, or even magic. Check out the course descriptions for more information on selecting your minor courses.

Life on Campus

The best way to get a true college experience is living on campus, which is exactly what you’ll do during Frontiers. You and your roommates will live in secure, first-year residence halls situated along the Quad in the heart of WPI’s campus.

WPI undergraduate staff will live in your residence halls with you to provide help or answer any questions. 24-hour nursing care is available, and regular check-ins with staff will be held to ensure that your time at Frontiers is fun, exciting,
eye-opening––and safe.

Did We Mention the Food?

Meals will be enjoyed in WPI’s dining facilities. A wide-variety of foods are offered each day, ranging from a salad bar and sandwiches to hot entrees, grilled items, and desserts. Vegan, vegetarian, kosher, and gluten-free options are also available.
