Your Journey Begins

Welcome to the Class of 2021! New Student Orientation (NSO) is an opportunity for new undergraduate students and their families to explore the campus, meet fellow first-year students, and get to know the peer mentors, faculty, and staff who will help you begin your college journey.

As a new student, we certainly want you to feel right at home, and you'll have plenty of time during NSO to unpack and settle into your room, make new friends, and prepare for classes. But you’ll also have a chance to discover your new hometown of Worcester (second biggest city in New England!); participate in a scavenger hunt around campus; see fellow WPI students perform in theater, comedy, or musical performances; learn more about the 200+ clubs and organizations available on campus; and meet the members of your Insight Team.

Special programs for parents and families, quirky WPI traditions, and informative programs, sessions, and events will help ease your transition to life at WPI.

Get More Insight

You're bound to have questions as you settle into WPI, from how to get involved with campus activities to when to declare a major. That's where your Insight Team comes in. This group of students and advisors is dedicated to answering your questions and providing the guidance, support, and fun needed to make the transition to college life a successful one. You'll meet your team during NSO and regularly get together with them throughout the first two terms of your academic year.

WPI’s First Year Insight Program

Moving In

For most first-year students, NSO begins the morning of August 20 with Move-In Day--and we handle it a little differently than other schools. As part of an ongoing tradition, you'll find an army of upperclassmen students (including many members of WPI fraternities and sororities), residential services staff, and other university volunteers ready to help upload your car and carry your items up to your new dorm room. In many cases, students and families don't have to lift a thing! The goal is to make the move-in process as easy and stress-free as possible.

Activities Fair

Did you know there are over 200 student organizations at WPI? Whether you're a ballroom dancer, a singer, an ultimate Frisbee enthusiast, or a photographer, we’ve got something for everyone. Learn more about them during the Activities Fair on August 23 (rain date August 25).

Bridge Crossing

Have you looked at the orientation schedule and wondered about the Bridge Crossing? It's actually one of WPI's oldest and possibly most observed traditions. All WPI students cross Earle Bridge as a class only twice in their undergraduate career: once, as freshmen, to symbolize their official entrance into the WPI community, and again at commencement.
