Physical Education, Recreation, & Athletics

The Department of Physical Education, Recreation, and Athletics is dedicated to promoting physical fitness and wellness,  encouraging the pursuit of excellence, supporting leadership at all levels, and enhancing the overall athletic experience for WPI students.

We encourage our students and student-athletes to play hard and study hard. They learn teamwork and problem-solving skills in the classroom and on the playing field. We provide an environment that develops health, work ethic, teamwork, leadership, and integrity, allof which are essential for our students, both personally and professionally. 

More than 60 percent of WPI students participate in athletics in the following formats:

Varsity Sports

Academics always comes first at WPI, but that doesn't stop our teams and players from consistently excelling in NCAA Division III athletics. WPI fields 20 NCAA Division III men's and women's teams.

Our athletic facilities are top-notch as well. Our gyms, courts and fields are state-of-the-art. Our rowing center is one of the largest in the country.  Learn more about Varsity Sports at WPI.

Intramural Activities

The WPI Intramural Sports Program provides its participants an opportunity to become involved in a group and/or individual activity for social interaction, physical conditioning, and psychological development. The intramural program is designed to emphasize the importance of having fun. Approximately 55 percent of the student body at WPI participate in the intramural program. Club Sports

Featuring approximately 20 different sports teams, the WPI Club Sports Program welcomes individuals who are full-time WPI students. Some Club Sports teams compete against teams from other area colleges and universities. Club teams may be instructional, recreational, and/or competitive, and allow students to learn new skills, and form lasting friendships.  Learn more about Club Sports at WPI.
