Worcester, Mass. -- Lt. Col. Stephen H. Tupper of the WPI Army ROTC unit on campus received notification from the Discovery Channel School at http://www.discoveryschool.com that the WPI Army ROTC site at www.wpi.edu/Academics/Depts/MilSci/BTSI.html was selected as a valued Internet resource for the thousands of teachers throughout the U.S. who visit this resource. Their Discovery Channel School site features hundreds of pages of lesson ideas and activities for many of the topics commonly taught in the K- 12 curriculum.
The cited WPI web pages were initially set up by an IQP team several years ago, says Colonel Tupper, and are part of the military science curriculum. The pages are described as Staff Rides, instructional vehicles for conveying historical lessons from past campaigns to the leadership of the Army in the present. The aim of the staff ride is to bring to life past battles to provide examples of leadership and examine the various factors of battle. The battles depicted at the WPI site are from the Revolutionary War and cover the Battle of Lexington and Concord, the Battle of Breed's Hill/Bunker Hill, Battle of Saratoga, and the Battle of Monmouth.
The links feature images, descriptions of the battles, logistical support in the area, and local sources of information.
