Massachusetts is falling behind other states in creating an infrastructure for the developing fuel cell industry. To change this, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is hosting a Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Summit to bring together Massachusetts companies, researchers, universities, and government leaders to work toward building a strong fuel cell industry cluster in the Commonwealth.
The summit will include speakers from the U.S. Department of Energy, the Renewable Energy Trust, WPI, and a number of leading suppliers of fuel cell systems and components. A keynote address will be delivered by Rep. James P. McGovern (D-MA) on "Future Opportunities for the Massachusetts Fuel Cell Industry and the New Hydrogen Coalition."
In addition to the speakers, there will be breakout sessions in the afternoon focusing on
- hydrogen generation and storage systems
- micro-fuel cell opportunities and medical and biomedical markets
- military fuel cell markets and portable fuel cell opportunities
- stationary fuel cell systems and distributed generation/UPS systems
The summit will introduce the new Massachusetts Hydrogen Coalition, an organization dedicated to promoting and expanding the fuel cell industry in Massachusetts and increasing the level of funding and related activities among Massachusetts companies, universities and research labs.
An exhibit area will feature devices and components from a range of local companies, including a demonstration of a fuel cell-powered vehicle developed by students at the WPI Fuel Cell Center. Tours of the WPI Fuel Cell Center will be available, and a networking reception will close the program.
The Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Summit is sponsored by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, the Center for Technology Commercialization, and WPI.
