WPI Venture Forum to Focus on Massachusetts’ Competitive Role in Global Economy


The WPI Venture Forum will hold its monthly meeting from 6:30-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, in WPI's Campus Center Odeum, and will address how Massachusetts' high-tech companies can win new business in the global economy. The forum will also offer advice for leveraging the Bay State's high standard of living, outstanding entrepreneurial resources, and knowledge-based economy. Speakers will be Patrick J. "Pat" Larkin of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and Bruce Ginsberg, president of MooBella LLC, a company that has revolutionized the way ice cream is made, dispensed, and enjoyed.

What

Competition in the world's high-tech markets has become fierce as China, Eastern Europe, India, and the Far East have become more competent, cost competitive and eager to offer products and services around the globe. The Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) Venture Forum will address how Massachusetts' high-tech companies can win new business in this increasingly challenging environment. The forum will also offer advice for leveraging the Commonwealth's high standard of living, outstanding entrepreneurial resources and knowledge-based economy.

Who

  • Patrick J. "Pat" Larkin, director of the John Adams Innovation Institute, economic development division of the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC), has more than 15 years in economic development addressing questions of competition in the global market. He served as a top aide to the late Massachusetts Congressman Silvio Conte, and has also served the state as deputy secretary for defense diversification and technology transfer for the Office of Economic Affairs, and is credited with conceptualizing MTC’s Renewable Energy Trust.
  • Bruce Ginsberg, president of MooBella LLC, will offer the forum's case presentation of his company's trek to compete on an international scale through determination, innovation, and vision by revolutionizing the way ice cream is made, dispensed, and enjoyed.
