WPI to Host Forum for Parents, Students on How to Pay for College in Tough Economy

WPI is offering a program to help families and students manage higher education costs during these difficult economic times. The program, "Adapting to New Economic Realities," will feature a slate of higher education and financial experts, and it will be held at 7 p.m. April 15. RSVP by April 8.

What

Mindful of the challenging economic times, Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) is offering a program to help families and students manage higher education costs during the recession. The program, "Adapting to New Economic Realities," will feature a slate of higher education and financial experts: James Slattery, managing director of lender and school services, American Student Assistance; Thomas Graf, executive director, Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority; and Jeffrey Solomon, executive vice president and chief financial officer.

All WPI community members, and especially current students and their parents, are encouraged to attend the event, which will allow them to learn more about the state of the economy, and will also provide options for paying for college during these challenging times.

WPI's goal is to closely work with families to ensure their students can continue to benefit from the university's outstanding faculty and innovative programs, despite the economic downturn; in February, WPI announced that its undergraduate tuition will increase by just 2.9 percent for the 2009-10 academic year – the lowest percentage increase in almost 20 years.

Students and parents interested in attending may RSVP by April 8 by emailing sringer@wpi.edu.
