Changes in Summer COVID Testing

June 16, 2022

This message was sent to the WPI community.

Message Highlights:

  • COVID cases are slowly dropping in the Northeast and MA.
  • Effective immediately and for the remainder of the summer, WPI will offer only rapid antigen testing for community members who have symptoms or who have been a close contact.
  • Masks are strongly recommended for all symptomatic people even if testing negative for COVID.
  • WPI is actively developing COVID mitigation plans for the 2022 fall semester.

Dear WPI Community,
As COVID-19 cases in the Northeast and Worcester decline and federal funding for COVID-19 testing ends, WPI will transition into a strategic testing plan for the remainder of the summer.

Effective immediately and for the rest of the summer, WPI will offer rapid antigen testing (tests administered on campus or at home that provide results in 15 minutes) for individuals who:

  • are experiencing COVID-like symptoms
  • had close contact with someone with COVID-19 at least 5 days prior.

Rapid antigen testing will be offered at the Hackfeld lot from 10 to 11 am Monday through Thursday. WPI will not offer PCR testing (tests that are processed off-campus and return results in 24-72 hours) for the remainder of the summer.

If you test positive for COVID through an at-home test or other mechanism outside of WPI’s testing protocol, please fill out a positive case form.
Fall Plans

WPI’s Coronavirus Monitoring Group (CMG) is actively developing plans for the fall and will communicate COVID-related protocols as soon as they are finalized. In the meantime, we ask you to please wear a highly effective, well-fitting mask if you are experiencing any symptoms that might be infectious to others even if you have not tested positive for COVID-19.
We hope you are enjoying the summer
