The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME)
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in BME, Mechanical Engineering, Data Science, or a closely related field. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the newly established Neuroscience Initiative at WPI (www.wpi.edu/+neuroscience) which promotes broader campus-wide cross-disciplinary activities in neuroscience and includes a cluster of three faculty searches this year (computational neuroscience, neurobiology, and neuroengineering). We are looking for individuals who value innovation, creativity, diversity, inclusion, and collaboration. Applicants must show potential for an innovative and sustainable research and teaching career. We expect faculty to be involved in a balance of research, teaching, and service.
The Department of Biomedical Engineering delivers a vibrant ABET-accredited undergraduate BME program with approximately 400 undergraduate and 70 graduate students pursuing BS, MS, MEng, and Ph.D. degrees. The BME Department is housed in the WPI Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center at Gateway Park (www.wpi.edu/Admin/LSBC/index.html), a state-of-the art, mixed-use research facility. WPI’s campus is located in Worcester, Massachusetts, a thriving 21st century college city recognized as a growing hub of scientific and technological innovation about one hour west of Boston. WPI also has a joint Ph.D. program with the University of Massachusetts Medical School, located 2 miles from WPI, which offers additional research opportunities at the NeuroNexus Institute (UMass Neuroscience Initiative) and over 30 other research clusters.
WPI’s reputation as a rigorous and innovative university rests on the shoulders of its faculty. A highly selective, private technological university and one of the nation’s first, WPI believes that when great minds work together, great advances follow. At WPI the boundaries to multidisciplinary collaboration are low—faculty members, students, and other partners work collaboratively on the real-world projects and purposeful research that are hallmarks of the WPI experience. Our department and institute are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and respected; a place where every student, faculty and staff member can be themselves, irrespective of their race, class, gender, or sexual orientation, so that they can study, live, and work comfortably, to reach their full potential, and make meaningful contributions in order to meet departmental and institutional goals.
Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, complete publication list, a teaching statement, a research statement including professional leadership, a statement regarding contributions to diversity, and names and email addresses for at least five references.
