As anticipated, given the ongoing surge of COVID infections nationwide, WPI has seen an uptick in positive cases within our own community. Although the numbers reported today include test results returned over a two-day span, they are concerning. In order to stay together, we must continue to work together to create a “protective bubble” on campus.
WPI’s data clearly shows the risk of being a “close contact”—being within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 cumulative minutes over a 24-hour period, even while wearing facial coverings. Because you may not know someone is infected, gathering with anyone besides your roommate or your housemate—even with a face covering, even while distanced—is prohibited during the Stay In Place status. This applies to everyone, regardless of whether they live in residence halls, local apartments, or fraternity/sorority housing. We ask that you keep your personal bubble small, and review the Student Code of Conduct COVID Addendum, which states that gatherings are a violation of the code.
