More Changes Coming to Campus on June 15

Note: This is dated information and may not reflect the current policies in place on campus. Please refer to We Are WPI for the latest information.

June 10, 2021

This message was sent to the WPI community.

Beginning June 15

Community-Wide Changs

  • Face coverings are no longer necessary on campus while outdoors and maintaining six feet of social distancing
  • For indoor mask use during the summer months:
    • Masks are not required indoors for fully vaccinated individuals who can maintain social distancing - except in the Health Services and Student Development and Counseling Center (SDCC) offices and in WPI-sponsored transportation/vehicles.
      • Individuals are considered “fully vaccinated” two weeks after the final dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine.
    • Partially vaccinated individuals should wear a face covering and keep socially distanced.
    • Unvaccinated individuals are strongly advised to wear a face covering and keep socially distanced.

Anyone who prefers to continue wearing masks—for any reason—should feel free to do so; everyone is asked to respect that choice without question.

NOTE: These changes are for summer only; there is no indoor mask policy for fall yet. As we get closer to welcoming students back to campus, we may see changes in mask guidance. WPI will continue monitoring the situation and will make adjustments to indoor mask guidelines for the fall if necessary.
  • All WPI offices, classrooms, labs, meeting spaces, bathrooms, elevators, shuttles, and the Sports and Recreation center return to 100% capacity
    • Current cleaning and ventilation practices will continue.
    • No reservations will be needed for the Sports and Recreation Center.
    • There are no capacity limits on internal events.
    • Admissions tours will return to normal capacity and venues.
    • Campus building doors will remain locked for the summer and will require card access.
  • WPI will discontinue the Visitor and Vendor registration process; offices and event organizers should keep a list of visitors/attendees in the event contact tracing is needed.
  • Use of water bottle filling stations will resume.

For Employees

  • Employees will no longer be required to complete COVID onboarding training.
  • Research with external human subjects will be fully allowed.
  • Faculty should maintain a list of everyone working/visiting their labs (in the event contact tracing or scaling back becomes necessary).

All employees must enter their vaccine information into Workday by June 15, 2021.

For Students

  • Reminder: All students must enter their vaccination information into Medicat as soon as they are fully vaccinated or by August 1, 2021 at the latest. Based on vaccine type, students need to receive their shot(s) by the dates below:
  • Johnson & Johnson (one dose): July 18
  • Pfizer (two doses, three weeks apart): First dose by June 27; second dose by July 18
  • Moderna (two doses, four weeks apart): First dose by June 20; second dose by July 18

Looking Ahead

  • A-Term travel to the Boston Project Center has been approved.
  • The Deans of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies are working to identify options for students who cannot return to campus due to circumstances beyond their control. More details are forthcoming.
  • Beginning in A-Term, internal WPI community events (including alumni events) may resume.
  • At present, we plan to allow external events to resume in B-Term.
  • WPI-sponsored events with alumni, trustees, corporate partners, as well as others looking to rent campus space, will be allowed to resume in B-Term.
