Professor Elke Rundensteiner among academic and research partners in PracticePoint at WPI developing “smart” healthcare technology

Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito recently announced a $5 million capital grant from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative to help build PracticePoint at WPI, a major new research and development facility that will bring together the resources needed to create smart and secure medical devices and healthcare technology. These public funds have been matched by a $2.5 million capital and imaging equipment grant from GE Life Sciences, and by WPI’s $9.5 million commitment for facility, faculty, and staff support, and operational support. Long-time WPI partners UMass Medical School and MITRE both pledged faculty or staff time and research support.

Numerous WPI faculty, including Elke Rundensteiner, Professor of Computer Science and Director of Data Science, will lead research and other projects in the facility.
