Alumni Weekend at WPI is our favorite time of the year, when our alumni family returns to their home on The Hill to revisit favorite campus spots, reunite with friends and classmates, and relive the traditions and memories that make the WPI experience special. Whether you’ve been a regular visitor to campus, or haven’t been back since you graduated, Alumni Weekend is the perfect time to reminisce about your time as a student and make new memories.

Join us in Worcester for Alumni Weekend 2022 - May 19 through 22! Keep an eye on the Alumni Weekend website - schedule and programming information with be released in the coming months.

    In Touch with Tech, Part One

     

    Inclusive of short classes, demonstrations, and panels and roundtable discussions hosted by faculty, students, and alumni, tours and building open houses. More information available on campus during the weekend.

    Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Facility Tour, 15 Sagamore Road

    WPI has a new building for advanced manufacturing. Located on the edge of campus, this facility hosts faculty with large research labs performing advanced manufacturing (3D printing, drying, recycling, and more!). This session will tour the new facility and highlight the research in Prof. Danielle Cote's materials characterization and processing lab, which features a state of the art 3D metal printing cold spray system as well as over $4M of advanced materials characterization equipment.

    Alternative to Concrete, Kaven Hall, 116

    A team of researchers at Worcester Polytechnic Institute has developed an entirely new material that’s a low-cost, high-impact sustainable solution to address one of the largest contributors to climate change; the research at WPI has led to the creation of a self-healing Enzymatic Construction Material (ECM), which the research team describes as a “living material” that “provides a pathway to repair or even replace [traditional] concrete in the future.

    Studying Fire Characteristics using Cone Calorimeter, 50 Prescott Street

    Cone calorimeter is a device used to study the fire behavior of condensed phase materials. A sample of Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) will be burnt in a cone calorimeter and its fire behavior will be demonstrated.

    Human-Computer Interaction Lab, Fuller, B16

    What will computing look like in the future? In our lab, we explore the interdisciplinary field of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) with a focus on emerging interaction modalities (e.g. brain-computer interfaces, mixed reality, touch-sensitive fabrics, in-air gestures), often applying machine learning methods to develop intelligent interfaces. We design, build and evaluate novel interaction paradigms that make humans more effective, while also exploring real-world problems in various domains (e.g. education, accessibility, family well-being, safety-critical domains).

    Explore some of the medical robotics labs and learn about projects.

    Join the WPI Archives & Special Collections team to learn more about their work and get a behind the scenes tour of the Fellman Dickens Reading Room, Processing Areas, and Archival storage.  Visitors can also enjoy our current exhibit "Taming an Element:  WPI and Fire Protection Engineering" and learn more about WPI History, our world-class Charles Dickens collections, and our other unique resources that support our innovative teaching methods.

    Reducing Injuries with Tunable Nonlinear Spring Systems in Shoes, Innovation Studio, 205

    Share the work that has been done to develop shoes designed to help prevent ACL injuries; series of MQPs on this work (40+ students over the years); it has now morphed into a startup, and they have their first prototypes.

    Makerspace 3D Printing and Prototyping Exhibit, Innovation Studio, 119

    Meet members of the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Makerspace community, learn about 3D printing and other prototyping tools, and marvel at amazing items made by students, including a life-size Gompei the Goat! Chat with several WPI students who created these masterpieces and discover how they are leveraging this technology to bring their ideas to life at the Makerspace.

    A Celebration of Our Traditions

     

    Open to all alumni! Celebrate some of WPI's greatest alumni traditions during this dinner event. Members of the classes of 1970, 1971, and 1972 will be inducted into the Fifty-Year Associates, members of the class of 2022 will be inducted into the Alumni Association, and reunion classes will present their class gifts. Wine service will be offered with dinner.

    Close out Alumni Weekend at Worcester's beloved Polar Park! The Woo Sox will take on the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in MiLB action.

    Includes buffet lunch and admission ticket. Ticket price for all guests, including children and seniors, is the same. All guests must have a ticket, including children. Transportation and parking not included with ticket purchase.

    Buffet opens at 12:00; first pitch is at 1:00.
