Reducing Carbon in the Built Environment
 
Using  the  Olver  Transit  Center  as  a  case  study,  I  will explain   the   process   we  
went   through   and   the strategies  involved  to  achieve  zero  net  energy  at  the building
scale. Then we expand out to the city scale to look at the process we are going through in
the‘Carbon Free Boston’ project. This study is aiming to develop a strategy  to  help  the  City 
of  Boston  achieve  carbon neutrality by 2050.

Mark is a principal in Arup’s Boston offi  ce with 31 years of   experience   in   mechanical  
engineering   design, analysis,     and     construction.     He     has     particular experience 
 in   sustainable,   zero   net   energy,   and environmentally  responsible  design;  enhancing
