Sigrid Miller Pollin will present art and architecture from her
design studio in Amherst, MA. The lecture will first focus on how
selected architectural projects evolve in her practice by
studying site specifics and a wide range of aspirations of her
clients. She will also discuss recent exhibits of mixed media work
including a 2018 exhibit at the Hampden Gallery UMass
Amherst entitled [Containing] Great Space.
Sigrid Miller Pollin FAIA is an American born architect, artist and
educator. She holds a degree in Art History from Vassar
College and a Master of Architecture from Columbia University.
She is a professor of architecture at UMass Amherst and
principal of Miller Pollin Architecture, a progressive architectural
firm that focuses on the intersection between design and
sustainability. She is a 2017 winner of the BSA Women in
Design Award of Excellence and a 2018 WMAIA design award
winner. Throughout her long, intense career in architecture she
has explored connections between art and architecture. She
describes her recent body of art work examining the microscopic
world of plant cells as “looking inward beyond the surface and
into the space that nature creates every day.”
