 "Roles of regulatory variants in complex disease"

Abstract:

Alternative splicing (AS) is a closely regulated process that allows a single gene to encode multiple protein isoforms, thereby contributing to the diversity of the proteome. Dysregulation of the splicing process has been found to be associated with many inherited diseases. In this talk, I will discuss several projects that involve computational modeling in the regulation and functions of alternative splicing, including the roles of synonymous and intronic SNPs in complex disease, the clinical impact of splicing regulation on cancer prognosis, and roles of protein structure prediction in understanding the functions of splicing variants.
