Abstract:

What is synaptic plasticity? How does it occur and what biological role could it fulfill? This session will focus on long term potentiation (LTP), the canonical type of neuroplasticity. We’ll briefly discuss the history of LTP. Using the hippocampus as a model system, we’ll explore the mechanisms for induction and maintenance of LTP and the transition from early to late phase maintenance. Finally, we’ll discuss the association between LTP and long-term memory.
