An Entrepreneurial Mindset to Aid Tissue Engineering – The Spinach Heart Story Professor Glenn Gaudette, Professor - Olin Hall 107 One of the major hurdles in growing replacement human tissue is the inability to deliver oxygen, nutrients, and essential molecules required for cells to survive. To overcome this limitation, a team that included six WPI students took an unconventional approach and used spinach to attack this problem. Hear more about how the team came up with the idea, tested it and continues to innovate to solve significant medical problems.
Saving Energy, Preserving the Environment: WPI's Commitment to Sustainability Professor John Orr, Director of Sustainability - Salisbury Labs 115 Through the application of modern analysis and engineering tools to our own campus, we have substantially reduced our energy usage while growing in enrollment and building floor space. This benefits the enviornment through reduced use of natural resources and reduction of harmful emissions, while saving money that can be better spent on our educational mission. This and other examples of our application of the principles of sustainability throughout our educational and research programs will be discussed.
Engaging Interest in STEM Engineering Ambassadors - Higgins Laboratories 218
Join in the fun and engage in a hands on program facilitated by WPI students and experience the programs they facilitate to local students in the Worcester area to get students excited and interested in the STEM Fields. Great for grades 3-8 but with parental or college sibling help anyone can have fun!
