Monday, November 21, 2016

Floor/Room #:
Hagglund Room

PRESENTERS: Ingrid Shockey and Seth Tuler, Interdisciplinary and Global Studies Division

The WPI IQP offers students an opportunity to learn about themselves and about other cultures, whether the project centers are international or domestic. The India and Thailand Project Centers have initiated innovative programs in which WPI students work with peers from partnering institutions to deepen cultural learning by developing closer relationships with the projects and the community and by encouraging improved cross-cultural exchange of ideas. We observed chronic challenges indicating a need to re-think how we prepare and guide student and faculty teams. We will present the outcomes of our recent EDC-funded research, including strategies: a) to develop competencies for working across cultures in project teams and b) to spark student sensitivity to other cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives.

Lunch will be provided to those who pre-register.
