Tango, the iconic dance of Argentina well known for being a dance of love, passion, drama...but is it? Tango originated as a folk dance in the working class neighborhoods of Argentina during the 19th century. The music style popular at the time included heavy influences of African rhythms as well as instruments and musical styles from Europe which can still be found in present day compositions. While shows such as Dancing with the Stars or So You Think You Can Dance capitalize on the flashier characteristics, the more commonly practiced social dance is walking-based focusing on connecting to your partner. By the end of this class, you will be well prepared to attend tango dances happening in the Boston/Worcester scene.
The first day of class is free. Come and give it a try!
