Emily M. Douglas
Professor/Head of the Department of Social Science and Policy Studies

Abstract: Annually 1,500-2,000 children die as a result of child abuse and neglect every year in the United States. This talk will focus on risk factors for maltreatment deaths, as well as legislative and professional responses to and efforts to prevent these deaths. This is a dark topic, but the talk will emphasize the bright spots in the efforts of professionals and policymakers to turn the tide on the rate of maltreatment fatalities. Come join and see for yourself. Questions and comments will be welcomed.
