Derren Rosbach says: "In this talk I will discuss the challenges and benefits of crossing disciplinary boundaries. Interdisciplinary efforts are commonly encouraged but rarely defined. How do you actually go about working with others from different disciplines or professions?  I draw upon my professional experience as a Biologist turned Social Scientist and my scholarly work studying transdisciplinary research collaborations to explore conceptual and practical aspects of working across disciplines. Various models for practicing collaborative “cross disciplinary” research will be explained and used to facilitate a discussion about interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research at WPI as well as opportunities for collaboration through the newly emerging Institute of Science and Technology for Development (InSTeD).  I have found and will argue that more integrated and problem focused transdisciplinary efforts are most appropriate and needed when research is aimed at addressing real world challenges."
