Bisected theta seriestle

ABSTRACT:  Euler's pentagonal number theorem (EPNT) is a special case of a classical theta identity. Recently, Merca considered a bisection of EPNT, which led to new partition identities. It is natural to consider bisections for other classical theta identities. This leads to new partition identities relating polygonal numbers and new partition functions involving least r-gaps. This is joint work with Mircea Merca. If time permits, I will also discuss some results about truncations of theta series.
