Title: Juggling numbers and geometry
Abstract: One goal of mathematics is to describe the patterns we see in everyday phenomena, from weather to population growth to disease transmission and so on. In this talk, we will start by using mathematics to describe an important everyday phenomenon: juggling. We will describe juggling patterns using numbers, count the different kinds of patterns, and create new ones. From there we will make connections to different areas of mathematics, including group theory, topology, combinatorics, and number theory. The theme is that there are surprising connections all around - we just need to find them!   This talk is meant to be accessible to everyone who is interested and curious.
