Title: Test Scores: An Interactive Simulation
Abstract: Tests are a ubiquitous part of education. However, there is widespread confusion about testing and suspicion around whether test scores tell us anything of value. In this talk, I demystify test scores through an interactive testing simulation. I show that tests are a tool for measuring knowledge, just as rulers are a tool for measuring height and scales are a tool for measuring weight. I demonstrate that tests are imperfect measurement tools that contain error. I explain where error in the test scores comes from, how error affects the interpretation of test score distributions, and how testing error can be reduced.
