Workshop: Building a Teaching Portfolio: To Improve Teaching and to Document Teaching for Promotion or Tenure

Wednesday, March 10, 2021
1:00 pm to 2:00 pm

This is a virtual workshop, Register Here for zoom link.

A teaching portfolio provides a holistic view of one’s teaching activities and documents evidence of teaching quality from a variety of sources—not just student ratings. The highly individualized process of selecting and organizing material for a portfolio helps us reflect on and improve our teaching, show change and professional growth, and identify areas for continued development. Both the Committee on Appointments and Promotions and the Committee on Tenure and Academic Freedom are now requesting that candidates submit teaching portfolios to document their high quality teaching.

This workshop will introduce the typical contents of a teaching portfolio and a draft rubric for high quality teaching developed by an ADVANCE working group last summer. In community with colleagues, participants will outline the contents of their portfolio and brainstorm about evidence to include. The workshop will be suitable for anyone creating a portfolio for this year’s promotion and tenure cycle and for those who would like to start building one over time.
