Physics Department Colloquium - Computer Generated Holograms and Careers in Optics - Dr. Shelby Ament Senior Optical Engineer, Arizona Optical Metrology
Dr. Shelby Ament\nSenior Optical Engineer, Arizona Optical Metrology\nComputer Generated Holograms and Careers in Optics\n\nAbstract:
Computer Generated Holograms, or CGHs, have been used for decades to meas
ure shape accuracy of optical lenses and mirrors. In this talk, I will fir
st review what CGHs are and how they work. Next, I’ll discuss three exci
ting CGH capabilities: 1) Alignment patterns to ensure that the location o
f the optic under test is precisely known. 2) Patterns to align multiple o
ptics together in a system. 3) Analysis of wavefront error of an optical s
ystem at multiple field angles simultaneously. Finally, I’ll discuss my
career path, from physics undergraduate major to optics PhD and hologram d
esigner!\nBiography: Shelby Ament, Ph.D., is a senior optical engineer at
Arizona Optical Metrology. She holds a doctorate from the University of Ar
izona’s Wyant College of Optical Sciences, with specialization in diffra
ctive optics. She has seven years of industry experience in optical metrol
ogy, from testing off-the-shelf optics to aligning and verifying cutting-e
dge telescope systems. At AOM, she designs and certifies CGHs for customer
 s and develops next-generation metrology products.\nMeeting ID: 923 1734 7
