Stay in Compliance
“Research compliance” encompasses many university and sponsor policies designed to ensure that research is conducted ethically, responsibly, and in the public interest. The Office of Research Integrity and Compliance can assist WPI faculty, staff, and students with all types research compliance issues, including those listed below. We encourage you to contact them with any questions you may have.
Responsible Conduct of Research
Students and postdocs on NSF grants must complete training in the responsible conduct of research, as required by NSF. Training is done online via the CITI Program, and should be completed as soon as possible after starting work on the grant.
Financial Conflict of Interest
All investigators must have a current (<12 months old) FCOI disclosure on file at the time of proposal submission. Disclosures must be kept current if you are an investigator on an active grant. Additionally, NIH-funded investigators must complete COI training through the CITI program every four years.

Human Subjects/IRB
The Institutional Review Board reviews and approves all research involving human subjects at WPI.

The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) reviews and approves all research involving vertebrate animals at WPI.

Whistleblower Protection
Employees working on federal grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements have enhanced whistleblower protections under federal law. These employees are protected from reprisal if they disclose certain information relating to waste, fraud, and abuse. Follow the link below to read the full notice regarding these protections.
