tratton Hall 311\nSpeaker: Jane Coons, WPI\nTitle:Toric Ideals and Markov
Bases\nAbstract: A toric ideal is the kernel of a monomial map. In this ta
lk, we introduce toric ideals and some of their basic properties. In parti
cular, we illustrate how you can use the integer matrix that defines the m
onomial map to learn about a toric ideal. We introduce the concept of a Ma
rkov basis for the integer kernel of this matrix and present the Fundament
al Theorem of Markov Bases, which connects Markov bases and ideal generati
 ng sets.\n
