European Sustainability Expert Bob Evans to Speak at WPI on April 14

What

Bob Evans, professor in the Sustainable Cities Research Institute of the University of Northumbria, Newcastle upon Tyne, England, will speak at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) about European approaches to urban and regional sustainability, resilience, and public policy in Europe. The event is being held to start a dialogue among Americans interested in learning from European sustainability methods.

Hosts of this free, public lecture are WPI's President's Task Force on Sustainability, the Environmental Studies Program, and the Worcester Community Project Center. The event is sponsored through the Alden Trust Award, which was given in 2007 to WPI's Worcester Community Project Center and its director, Robert Krueger, director of the environmental studies program and assistant professor of geography.

Who

Bob Evans is the author of numerous books, book chapters, and articles on land use planning, sustainability, environmental policy, and local governance. He is co-founder and co-editor of the international journal Local Environment and has worked as a town planner in the public, private, and community sectors. Evans was the U.K. chairman of the European Union's Working Group on Urban Environmental Management and a member of the Award Panel for the European Sustainable Cities and Towns Award. His most recent book is Governing Sustainable Cities.
