Faculty, staff and students involved with the Collaborative for Entrepreneurship & Innovation engage in, support and encourage research on entrepreneurship-related topics. The term entrepreneurship encompasses a range of subjects and activities: new venture creation, business acquisition, corporate venturing, venture finance, family business, and more. In accordance with WPI’s mission, research activities focus primarily on technology and innovation. We are especially interested in research projects that will enhance the educational experiences of WPI students and that will offer value to practitioners.
Family-owned enterprises are the dominant form of business worldwide, across industries and in all size categories. WPI is a member of a global consortium of universities conducting research into entrepreneurial behavior of family businesses, the Successful Trans-generational Entrepreneurship Practices (STEP). STEP scholars and families join together to -
- Conduct cutting edge research on the entrepreneurial capabilities and contributions of business families worldwide
- Generate an applied stream of powerful and pragmatic entrepreneurial practices that fuel continuity and growth of family enterprises
- Provide a shared learning environment where researchers interact with family business leaders to generate solutions that have an immediate impact.
