IT Governance

Leading WPI to Efficiency in IT Planning and Projects

WPI utilizes a strategic planning methodology to manage the process of governing resources and spending for projects through our IT Governance Committee. This approach benefits both the university and those who use our services, by assuring value as we manage technology for teaching, learning, research, compliance, enterprise resource planning and other complex systems. IT Governance oversight insures that investments in information technology are given to the highest priority projects that best align with the strategic mission of WPI.

Under the leadership of Executive Vice President and CFO and the VP of Information Technology/CIO, the IT Governance Committee evaluates and prioritizes proposed IT initiatives to best meet WPI’s strategic objectives.

Committees meet routinely to vet new technology or major enhancements to existing technology, address policies related to academic technology and library computing, as well as addressing data quality and standards.

Since 2007, all projects have been evaluated, prioritized, and approved through our IT Governance process.  The Enterprise Transformation completed in 2022, with the transition from Banner to Workday, along with improved data strategy, e-Projects and identity access management.
