WPI Plans for Fall Opening Latest Information
  • Is the Office of Accessibility Services (OAS) open?

ODS is currently operating remotely. Our standard office hours are Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm eastern time. We can be reached by phone at 508-831-4908 as well as accessibilityservices@wpi.edu. Please understand that we will make every effort to get back to you within a reasonable amount of time.

  • Should I still submit my accommodation letters?

Yes. Please submit your accommodation letters via Clockwork.  Your classroom-based accommodations are still valid and will be implemented during online course instruction as appropriate.

After you submit your letters, you can reach out to your professors to discuss accommodations and how they will be implemented during online course instruction.  Please note, this is an extraordinarily busy time for professors as they are moving their course material to online formats.  If you do not hear back from them right away, please have patience.

If you or your professors have questions about implementing your accommodations, please contact ODS at 508-831-4908 or accessibilityservices@wpi.edu.

  • How will my accommodations look in an online format?

This will all depend on how your course has been reformatted now that is it being taught online. After you submit your letters, you can reach out to your professors to discuss accommodations and how they will be implemented during online course instruction. Please note, this is an extraordinarily busy time for professors as they are moving their course material to online format. If you do not hear back from them right away, please have patience.

If you or your professors have questions about implementing your accommodations, please contact ODS at 508-831-4908 or accessibilityservices@wpi.edu.

  • I have an accommodation for a note-taker and am wondering how this will work

Online courses may not present the same for a note-taker as in-person. online there may not be the same need for a note-taker as there has been in the past.  If lectures and class materials are always available on Canvas, you will be able to go back and re-watch & re-review materials on your own. You can still request a peer note-taker by filling out the Note-Taker Request Form. From there, we will still follow our same protocol of reaching out to the class roster and asking for a peer notetaker to share their notes.

  • I have an accommodation for alternate format and am wondering how this will work?

You can still request alternate format by filling out the E-text Alternate Format Request form. Please be patient with ODS staff as fulfilling these requests can be a lengthy process. Please submit your requests as soon as possible.

  • Will the Exam Proctoring Center (EPC) be proctoring exams? How do I get extended time for my online exams?

No.  At this time the EPC will not be proctoring exams. If your professors are uploading exams to Canvas, they will be able to implement your extended time. Once your accommodation letters have been sent out, please be in touch with your professors to ask how they will be administering exams. Please note, this is an extraordinarily busy time for professors as they are moving their course material to online formats. If you do not hear back from them right away, please have patience.

If you or your professors have questions about implementing accommodations, please contact the ODS at 508-831-4908 or accessibilityservices@wpi.edu.

  • I have a weekly meeting with one of the ODS staff members. Can I still meet with them?

Although we will not be holding in-person meetings at this time, please know that we are more than happy to set up a phone call, an on-line Zoom meeting, or simply chat via email.  If you do happen to live in the area, please call the office at 508-831-4908 or email us at accessibilityservices@wpi.edu instead of walking in. The phone line will go to voicemail, but rest assured our phone line is regularly being monitored.

  • I am interested in having a meeting with an ODS staff member, how do I do that

Please email accessibilityservices@wpi.edu or call us at 508-831-4908 and a staff member will be in touch with you regarding your meeting request. You may also email Amy (acurran@wpi.edu) or Jessica (jlszivos@wpi.edu) or Taylor (tvgarnes@wpi.edu) directly.  We each have Zoom accounts set up for virtual meetings. We can send our Zoom manual to you should you need assistance in setting up a Zoom account.

  • With the switch to online learning I anticipate barriers and would like to know how ODS can support me.

During this transitional time, all offices at WPI are navigating changes but are still here for you. Please know we truly care about each and every one of you.  We are here to help be advocates and hope you will feel comfortable reaching out for assistance.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please never hesitate to reach out.  We acknowledge how disruptive these abrupt changes can be and the stress/anxiety you may be feeling.  We can be reached by phone at 508-831-4908 as well as accessibilityservices@wpi.edu. Please know the ODS team is here to support you as we all navigate this together!
