Entering service as an Army Transportation Corps officer in 2006, Major Irwin deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with the 53rd Movement Control Battalion from Ft Eustis, Virginia. Major Irwin Served as a Forward Support Company Commander and Battalion Operations Officer with 210th Brigade Support Battalion, 2d Infantry Brigade Combat Team at Fort Drum, New York. After instructing the Combined Logistics Captains Career Course at Fort Lee, Virginia, Major Irwin continued service with 2d Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade Staff at Camp Carrol, Korea. Shortly after graduating from Satellite CGSC at Fort Lee, Virginia, Major Irwin served as the Battalion executive officer with the Army Field Support Battalion and then as the deputy Support Operations Officer for 25th Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
Major Joseph Irwin is a native of Falmouth, Massachusetts and received his bachelor’s degree from Norwich University. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters) and the Ranger Tab.
