Program Term(s):
D-Term during spring
Project Opportunities:

Location and Culture:

The project center is dedicated to assisting Central and Eastern Massachusetts municipalities or watershed associations with their water resource needs. Students will have the opportunity to work on groundbreaking water issues such as storm water management, climate change mitigation, and drinking water infrastructure. Students will be partnered with an Eastern or Central Massachusetts municipality and a water resource expert and will receive water related training from the project center co-directors and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection employees. Projects are non-advocacy, hands-on, action oriented, and of immediate utility to Central and Eastern Massachusetts cities and towns.

Past Projects:

Past students at the project center have:

  • Analyzed potential improvements to meet drinking water quality standards and supply demands in Leicester, MA
  • Assisted local municipalities with challenges they face managing stormwater runoff
  • Evaluated public buildings in Chelsea, MA to determine structural and geographical characteristics that cause them to be at risk for coastal flood events, as well as their sensitivity to current and future flooding
