Location and Culture

Washington, D.C. offers students the opportunity to enjoy the National Mall, free museums, national monuments and parks, and buildings that house national government, all while working with embassies, international agencies, and local businesses. Average temperatures range from 45° to 65°.

Housing

WPI students will reside in 2- to 3-occupant hotel-style accommodations in Dupont Circle, a vibrant, exciting neighborhood in the center of D.C. Accommodation type and location are subject to change without notice and will be confirmed the term prior to departure.

Past Projects

Past students at the Washington, D.C. Project Center have:

  • Recommended environmentally-safe methods of collection and disposal of expired marine emergency flares with the US Coast Guard
  • Studied effectiveness of head protection devices with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, reducing risk of brain injury
  • Evaluated methods of reducing energy usage at wastewater treatment facilities with the US Department of Energy
